Vattenfall inaugurates world’s largest offshore wind farm

Vattenfall today officially opened the world’s largest offshore wind farm, the 300 MW Thanet Offshore Wind Farm, off England’s south east coast.

The opening ceremony took place at sea with the CEO and President of Vattenfall, Øystein Løseth, and the British Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Chris Huhne MP, among the participants. The £900 million Thanet project has 100, 3MW Vestas V90 turbines and actually started generating electricity in May 2010. Construction on the 300MW scheme started at the end of 2008.
